Constructed in 1978, Barkaleitet houses 215 senior apartments. Before sfty, many residents couldn't hear the limited fire alarms. The new system ensures every apartment has an interconnected alarm, improving safety. Grethe Signy Stang, Board Chairman, stated, “The sfty system is much better because every apartment has an alarm, which is connected to all the other alarms.”
Key benefits include instant notifications, a mobile app for clear instructions, zone-based alerts, and automated maintenance tracking. Despite initial concerns, residents embraced the smart safety solution. The sfty app allows real-time monitoring of smoke devices and links family members for extra security.
Leif Aspen, Board Member, noted, “We hear very little from our residents about the sfty platform, and that’s the best sign! People are happy and they feel safe.” He added, “Every stairway has its own safety zone. If one alarm is not answered within five minutes, all the alarms in that zone will go off. If a fire starts, we know the location, so the fire service doesn’t have to break down doors to find the source.”
Upgrading to sfty has transformed system maintenance from a labour-intensive process into a streamlined operation. Weekly automated reports update board members on each smoke and water leak device’s status using a simple traffic light system, enabling quick identification of potential issues. For example, where board members once distributed batteries without any way to verify if residents had installed them, they now receive automatic notifications when power levels run low. Leif Aspen stated, “If the weekly report shows an increased risk on any devices, we can follow up with immediate action.”
